The Motor Trip
Guided rides along the highland ridgelines — rice terraces, coffee gardens and switchbacks that open onto views you have to stop for. Ride yourself or take the pillion.
A slow, high-altitude escape into the western highlands of Flores. Mist, motorbikes, Manggarai coffee, the warmest hospitality — and the best sunset you'll watch all year.
Ruteng sits in the cool, green spine of Manggarai — a highland town where the morning arrives as mist and the coffee is grown a ridge away. This is the part of Flores most travellers rush past on the way to the boats. The Goloworok Escapade is the argument for stopping.
Misty mornings, an open road, a summit kept for sunset, and a harbour of pinisi waiting at the end of it.
We ride the highland trails, sit with the people who farm and roast here, and time the days so the best light always finds you somewhere worth standing. Then, when you're ready, we drop down to the coast — to Labuan Bajo and the tall-masted pinisi — for the kind of finale a trip should have.
Some places you visit. This one you disappear into.
Every escapade is built from these. We weave them into the rhythm that suits you — not a fixed checklist, a felt sequence.

Manggarai arabica, grown in the hills around you and roasted by the people who picked it. Cup it at the source, the way it's meant to taste.
Welcomes that don't feel staged. Meals in homes, conversations in villages, and hosts who treat you less like a tourist and more like a guest of the family.
The day is timed around it. A short climb to high ground above the valleys, then the whole sky turning — the single moment most guests say they'd come back for alone.
The descent to Labuan Bajo and its tall-masted pinisi — golden hour on the water, the quiet drama of a harbour that earns its reputation.
A representative rhythm for the 5-day route. Every escapade is shaped to your pace, fitness and dates — this is the shape of it, not a fixed timetable.
Land, breathe the cool air, and settle into Ruteng. An easy first evening — a roasted-on-site coffee, an early night, and the hills waiting outside the window.
Up for first light over the valley, then out to the Lingko fields — the radial, spiderweb rice paddies unique to Manggarai — and a welcome in a traditional village.
The full ride: ridgelines, coffee gardens, waterfalls and long views. The route is timed so the day ends high — a short climb, then sunset from the summit.
A scenic descent to the coast. Labuan Bajo by afternoon, the harbour at golden hour, and the tall pinisi against the light — the finale the highlands were building toward.
An optional day on the water — island viewpoints and a slow sail before you go. Or a quiet morning in town and an unhurried departure. Your call.
Pricing is shared on request so each escapade can be quoted to your group size, dates and inclusions — message us and we'll send a clear, all-in figure.
Goloworok isn't a franchise. It's run by three locals who grew up on these roads and want to show you the Flores they know.

"We came for Komodo and almost skipped the highlands. The summit sunset was the best evening of the whole trip."
"Riding through the coffee hills with Engkoz felt like being shown around by an old friend, not a tour."
"Cool air, slow mornings, real coffee, and a harbour finish under the pinisi. Exactly the escape we needed."
The dry season, roughly April to October, gives the clearest skies and best riding. The highlands stay cool all year — bring a light jacket for the mornings and the summit, whenever you visit.
No. You can ride pillion with an experienced local rider the whole way, or we can arrange a private car for the longer transfers. If you do want to ride, an international licence and some experience are recommended — talk to us first.
Moderate. The summit and viewpoint walks are short, but at altitude. We set the pace to the group, and the Bespoke option can be made as gentle as you like.
Most international guests fly into Labuan Bajo (LBJ), usually via Bali, then up to Ruteng. We'll help you plan the connection. Please check your current visa requirements before booking — these change, so confirm with official sources.
